2007 Acura Tl Top Speed

I just got my TL a couple weeks ago. Love IT!!! Anyhow, my roommate and I went to max it out. We have this stretch of road that is just straight and no change in elevation. It's about 1.25 miles or so, probably at bit longer. Just right before I hit the breaking marker. I saw the speedometer hit "145" mph. Not shitting ya. The car is stock. The car was weighted down a bit, had myself (180 lbs) and my roommate is (170 or so). Damn, i was amazed, let me tell you. And I live in Boulder, the air is a bit thin. I've gone faster on my bike of course, but it's still cool to see a stock car go this fast. Have anyone else try topping there TL out? What's the speed? I don't know if this kinda thread have been posted before, if it has, my bad.

i think it's around 154 but obviously at those speeds the actual rate you are going is not exactly accurate

I always wanted to know the top speed of my car as well. I'm too much of a chicken to try it out here in NYC though. I haven't found a good stretch of road that's not littered with cops.
I was checking some websites and they have it listed as 130mph for the stock '99 TL. Bullshit i thought. If it's 154 or so that's pretty damn good.
A 328 bimmer has a top speed of 155 - stock. With 225hp, i'd hope that 140mph would come easy, given the proper stretch of road.

Amazing, I have no idea that it was so much. I was thinking something like 130mph and if you change some stuff you'll get it up more. The most I brought mines to is 125mph when I ran from a cop in far Jersey. No he didn't catch me, I was flying.
Anyway I am impress that our cars can go that fast.

I also have a '01 R6 race bike, the speedometer is off a bit (about 8%). I guess the same thing with cars, the speed is not quite correct. The actual speed is probably off by 5% or so.

I hit 147 two weeks ago and the governor kicked in.
We got there fucking quick, too. The headers help so much up top.
Oh, yeah, and that was in 4th gear, spinning at about 4500-5000 RPM. Never even came close to getting into 5th gear. Theoretically, with enough power and good aerodynamics, we could probably hit 200+.

I can't honestly say what the REAL speed is....but I read stats on the TLS a while back (before purchasing it) that it was limited to 147mph...reason being is that Acura decided to use v-rated touring tires that has a max speed of 149.
If you were going faster than 147, then it probably was downhill or speedo error.

I think ken's picture was with the speedo at 151. But it's probably very innacurate at that speed anyway.
Besides, who the hell really cares what our top speed is. :dunno: I don't care how straight, how clear that road may look I would never even consider trying it. I wonder what damage a deer can do to a TL at that speed.

I believe it's 147. Both the TL-P and TL-S come with V-rated tires (150mph). If the car is able to go beyond the rating of the tires, manufacturers will usually limit the car to the tires ratings.

werd.... i don't care if my car doesn't have limiter. honestly if i go over 120mph it's time to shut down anyway....
i would rather give up my top speed for higher gear ratio, which is what i did on my gs4

Well....to a point. I wouldn't want to touch the last gear for sure. Imagine crusing @ 70mph @ 4krpm....lol

Second generation TL does not have a speed limiter. Top speed is drag limited only and is about 150-154 with sample variation.

hahaha nah, i am talking about the final drive i changed my rear end gearing from 3.26 to 3.76. the accel improvement is incredible already and yet my rpm is only about 300 more, so at 80 i am right at 3000. on the other hand it already takes my top speed from 149 to 135.
see the difference? a lot of people change their gear ratio. rsx/s, mustang, GS, etc... heck, even on the m3 the gear is 4.xx, that's sky high, but it's still ok

I think I am going to break the 150s tonight...my buddy has a Yamaha R6 and wants to drift behind me and pull out from behind me at like 130 or so...Hope the tires will hold
